Khodrocar - The Cupra Ibiza prototype has been revealed at the launch of Seat’s sporty sub-brand, previewing a potential production model.
Despite being just a show car, the Cupra Ibiza looks very close to production ready, using the more pedestrian Seat Ibiza as a base – which itself shares its underpinnings with the Volkswagen Polo.
Reports out of Europe claim the fate of the prototype will rely on customer feedback, but we can’t imagine a negative response to a hot, small car.
Should it make production, the company confirmed to Autocar the Cupra Ibiza will make around 200-220bhp (149kW-164kW) – which would put it in the same bracket as the related Volkswagen Polo GTI.
Inside, the hot Ibiza concept gets swathes of Alcantara and leather trim, along with bronze highlights designed to be a hallmark of the Cupra brand.
Timing for the production model is, naturally, unconfirmed at this point considering the company is waiting for customer and dealer feedback – though the current opinion of overseas media is that we wouldn’t see a production model until 2019 at the earliest.
In addition to the Cupra Ibiza and the Cupra Ateca revealed earlier this week, the sub-brand’s line-up is set to be joined by a hotted-up version of the Arona crossover – which shares its platform with the Polo, Ibiza, Audi Q2 and Volkswagen T-Roc.
